At Spa-Francorchamps, Jimmy Eriksson added 24 points more to his tally than his toughest championship rival, Kimiya Sato. In the ATS Formula 3 Cup, such a lead isn’t exactly what you would call small but on the other hand, it’s far from being alarming. After all, a driver can score a maximum of 75 points, on each race weekend. Nonetheless, the Swedish Lotus driver currently leads 3 : 1. On three of the four race weekends contested to date, he secured more points than his Japanese team-mate.
There was one constant everybody could rely on, on the past weekend in the Ardennes: the rain. Just like Germany, Belgium also had to cope with weather conditions that aren’t exactly what you would call summery. And at Spa-Francorchamps - a circuit that represents an extraordinary challenge for the drivers anyway - the adverse conditions made the task for the ATS Formula 3 Cup young guns extremely difficult. Nonetheless, the races were thrilling and even featured overtaking manoeuvres. Particularly at the end of the long uphill section following the spectacular Eau Rouge, the young talents made use of the push-to-pass system to overtake their opponents driving ahead of them.
On Saturday morning, Jimmy Eriksson proved to be invincible. The experienced Formula 3 driver celebrated his fourth win of the season.
